Restoration Update
The latest on progress with restoration! The ceiling, including an acoustical layer, has been fully completed. From my viewpoint, it looks wonderful. In addition, the new molding has been installed around the perimeter of the sanctuary ceiling. The painters have now taken over and will fill the nail holes in the molding and paint the area above the scaffolding deck. Once that is completed, the scaffolding will be removed. I expect the painting of the entire sanctuary will be completed in about three to four weeks.
I can also report that the lectern and pulpit have now both been repaired and returned to the church. This work was completed by Lynn Southward of Blissfield, who was contracted by Joseph Wagley Sr. Please extend your thanks to both gentlemen for the contribution and terrific craftsmanship in restoring these important items in our church. Mr. Wagley’s former partner had originally paid for the construction of the lectern in the 1950s, which was made to match the existing pulpit.
Once the scaffolding is removed, the “stage” floor and railing can be installed and rebuilt. The carpeting will then be replaced and pews installed as they are repaired. As always, please feel free to ask questions.
